Kate & JemimaThe Herald-Sun, Pride of Australia Medal recognises ordinary Australians doing extraordinary things. Their contribution is not widely known or recognised, but through their achievements they inspire all of us to help make our nation a better place.

Firefoxes Australia was recently nominated for the Pride of Australia Medal in the Community section. The awards ceremony was held in early September and we are very excited to announce that from thousands of entries, Firefoxes won the Community Spirit Section! We are so very proud of every person who has contributed to Firefoxes becoming such a vibrant and successful organisation. We look forward to helping many more women to create a new normal and realise their dreams!

September Mate to Plate
Mate to PlateOver fifty very enthusiastic FIREFOXES released their inner Masterchef in September to create close to 500 delicious home-cooked meals.  There were locals and visitors, men and women and loads of young people all helping our community in a very practical way. It really was a team effort with a group of Melbourne University 'disaster management' students making vegetable soup beside a chef from Mill Park baking Quiches and just over the room was a mass of local young people cooking slices, rolling rum balls and baking muffins!
It was wonderful to see so many people prepared to give up an afternoon to help cook meals. A big thank you goes to -

Plate to Mate

  • Darcy French who lead a team of kids to produce all of the ‘sweet stuff’ and his Mum Michelle for taking the photos
  • Community dining for allowing us to use their utensils and products
  • Chris Owen from the Kinglake Pub
  • Jane Szepe from Kinross Farm for donating eggs
  • Maria and Dean Sculli from The Harvest Store in Westfield South Morang for assisting with fruit and vegetables
  • Second Bite for other dry goods
  • Everyone who turned up on the day to slice, dice, mix and LAUGH!

Our October event will be held in Lawson's Restaurant, on October 22nd starting at 7pm. We welcome new faces and of course all of our regulars! Talking Heads
Tune in to Channel 2 (ABC) on Monday October 18 at 6:30pm for some footage of Firefoxes. You'll see the Horses for Hope program, Bootcamp and one of our get togethers at the Pub. We are so proud of what the organisation has achieved over the past 18 months and look forward to continuing to support women to create a new normal and realise their dreams!

Documentary
We have been busy interviewing producers/directors for our documentary. We are now ready to hit the road collecting women's insights into recovery and documenting the amazing story of FIREFOXES. Newsflash

The Victorian Honor Roll of Women 2010, the 10th Anniversary. The Victorian Honor Roll is open to all Victorian women who have contributed to changes in their community or a particular field of endeavor, in Victoria, Australia and internationally. A nomination has been put forward for All Women engaged in 2009 Bushfire Recovery Efforts. The new 2010 recipients will be announced at a cocktail presentation at the National Gallery o Victoria. This will be done in the week leading up to International Women’s Day on 8 March 2010. 2009’s inductee was Rowena Allen, an inspiring woman who helped launch FIREFOXES.
